Challenge

Orenburg is a Russian city that lies on the European side of the Ural River, which is part of the boundary between the continents of Europe and Asia. With a population of about 550,000 people, Orenburg is the administrative center of the Orenburg Oblast (region), with a total population of some 2 million. A tender was issued for the construction of a new water treatment plant (WTP) and the rehabilitation of existing horizontal water intake facilities.

Solution

The scope of work covered construction of a new WTP with a daily capacity of 100,000 m3, including: a block for clarifiers with filters; a building for the chemical feed plant; a balancing reservoir of discharge water; a reservoir for conditionally clean water; and a pumping station. The project also involved rehabilitating existing intake facilities with a daily capacity of 100,000 m3, including the reconstruction of two horizontal water intakes drawing water from the Ural River.
